Maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) is a measure of the strength of the inspiratory muscles. MIP is measured in cm H2O using a MicroMouth Pressure Meter MP01 (MicroMedical LTC., Kent, UK).
Participants are asked to take a deep breath and to seal their lips securely around the mouthpiece of the portable pressure meter. They are then asked to maximally inspire and sustain their maximal level for at least one second. Two trials of MIPs are collected for each participant and averaged to obtain a mean.
