Traumatic brain injury with loss of consciousness is based on self-report using the Brain Injury Screening Questionnaire. Participants are asked to report the number of times they have experienced a blow to the head in 7 situations then asked to record events of LOC and feeling DAC in each situation.
Participants are asked the following questions:
Have you ever experienced a blow to the head in the following situations? Have you ever lost consciousness [in the following situations]? Have you ever been dazed or confused [in the following situations]?
This variable is dichotomized as follows:
Value | Code |
---|---|
0 | No - No or unknown LOC, no or ≥ 1 report DAC |
1 | Yes - Any report of LOC |
