Novelty seeking scale - Sum of 40 items (MAP only)

This variable is only available in MAP.

Novelty seeking is measured using the 40-item novelty seeking scale from the Temperament and Character Inventory and consists of four subscales: exploratory excitability, impulsiveness, extravagance, disorderliness.

Participants are asked to respond true/mostly true or false/mostly false to each item. The score for each subscale is the number of item responses indicative of the trait. The overall score ranges from 0 to 40 and is the sum of the 4 subscale scores. Higher scores indicate more novelty seeking. See subscales for individual items.

Note: The overall score is calculated if at least half of the subscale scores are non-missing.
