Longest LOC
BISQ - Longest period of loss of consciousness
Longest period of loss of consciousness (LOC) is based on self-report using the Brain Injury Screening Questionnaire (BISQ). Participants are asked if they have ever lost consciousness in a variety of situations. If answered in the affirmative, participants are then asked to report the longest duration of LOC. This variable is the maximum duration of LOC reported.
Participants are asked the following questions:
Have you ever lost consciousness [in the following situations]? (If yes, what was the longest duration?)
- Vehicle accident? (ex: MVA, pedestrian accident, motorcycle/ATV crash)
- Hit by an object? (ex: equipment, falling object)
- Falling? (ex: down stairs, during a fainting spell, from a high place)
- Sports/leisure? (ex: sports, biking, skiing, on the playground)
- Physical abuse/assault? (ex: mugged)
- Military service? (ex: training, blast injury)
- Other? Please specify.
Response choices for duration of LOC:

Notes: If no instances of LOC are reported (bisq_loc_num = 0), then this variable is set to 0.
