Classification of parkinsonism based on number of parkinsonian signs present - 3 level

The 3-level classification of parkinsonism is based on the number of parkinsonian signs present. A trained nurse clinician administers a 26-item modified version of the motor portion of the United Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (mUPDRS) to calculate the presence of 4 parkinsonian signs: bradykinesia, gait, rigidity, and tremor. See global parkinsonian summary score for assessment of parkinsonian signs.

The following 3-level classification of parkinsonism is based on the number of signs present:

ValueCodingNumber of parkinsonian signs present
0No parkinsonism0 signs
1Possible parkinsonism1 sign
2Parkinsonism≥2 signs
