REM sleep behavior disorder: Severity
Severity of possible REM sleep behavior disorder (Mayo Sleep Questionnaire)

This variable is only available in MAP and MARS.

Severity of possible REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is assessed using a modified version of the Mayo Sleep Questionnaire (MSQ). Participants are asked to report the presence/absence of RBD symptoms by responding "yes" if the described event has occurred at least three times.

Severity of possible RBD ranges from 0 to 4 and is the number of symptoms reported.

Participants are asked the following questions (Yes=1, no=0 for all questions):

  1. Have you ever been injured from these behaviors (bruises, cuts, broken bones)?
  2. Has your bed-partner ever been injured from these behaviors (bruises, blows, pulled hair)?
  3. Have you ever had dreams about being attacked, or that involve defending yourself?
  4. Have you ever been told that the movements you made matched the details of your dream?

(Note: Very few participants report possible RBD.)
