Sleep and Circadian Rhythms
This variable is only available in MAP and MARS.
Presence of possible Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is measured using a question modified from the Mayo Sleep Questionnaire (MSQ).
Participants are asked the following question:
During the past month, how often have you had a restless, nervous, tingly, or creepy-crawly feeling in your legs that disrupts your ability to fall or stay asleep?
Participants are asked to report frequency of occurrence using a 5-point scale (see below). The values are then dichotomized and expressed as no RLS = 0 and presence of possible RLS = 1.
|Response||Response value||Dichotomized value|
|Not at all||0||0|
|Less than once a week||1||1|
|Once or twice a week||2||1|
|Three or four times a week||3||1|
|Nearly every day||4||1|
