Estimated glomerular filtration rate
Glomerular filtration rate based on Modified Diet in Renal Disease study

Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is a measure of kidney function, calculated using serum creatinine (CRN) and the 4-variable Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) study formula. Serum CRN is determined with a basic metabolic panel performed by Quest Diagnostics and is not recalibrated to be traceable by isotope dilution mass spectrometry. The MDRD formula is as follows:

  1. For white males, eGFR = 186 x (CRN) - 1.154 x (age) - 0.203
  2. For females, eGFR is multiplied by 0.742.
  3. For black participants, eGFR is multiplied by 1.21.
  4. For black females, eGFR is multiplied by both 0.742 and 1.21.
